Would a new website pay for itself?
Put in what a customer is worth to you and how many inquiries you get now. You'll see how many new customers it takes to cover the build, and how long that takes if the new site brings in a few more inquiries than the old one.
- Extra inquiries a month = inquiries now × the increase you assumed. 10 × 20% = 2
- Extra customers a month = extra inquiries × your close rate. 2 × 25% = 0.5
- Extra income a month = extra customers × what a customer is worth. 0.5 × $800 = $400
- Payback = build price ÷ (extra income a month − hosting a month). $2,500 ÷ ($400 − $39)
- First-year return = 12 months of extra income − (build price + 12 months of hosting). First-year cost $2,968
What this assumes
- The increase in inquiries is your guess. We can't promise any number, and nobody honest can.
- You close new inquiries at the same rate you close them now.
- A customer is worth what you entered. Using sales instead of profit makes the return look better than it is.
- It leaves out your own time, taxes, and customers you would have won anyway.
- Hosting is the plan each package normally runs on, paid monthly. Custom build is priced from $8,000; its real quote may be higher.
